The Mulleavy Sisters

Kate and Laura Mulleavy have been a huge inspiration to me since the birth of their line Rodarte five years ago. In my opinion, you can’t really be a lover of fashion without loving Rodarte. Born and raised in Pasadena, the Mulleavy sisters’ technique of making beautiful things look ruined has become their signature. Through layering, mixing materials and extravagant knit work, Rodarte has become one of the most creative, beloved brands of the 21st century.

From Febuary 11 to March 14, the Quicktake: Rodarte exhibit took place in NYC @ the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. The exhibit featured past and present pieces in an architectural setting that highlighted the Rodarte design aesthetic.

Of course being that I live in L.A., I always find out about these cool New York events way late. Thank goodness Cooper-Hewitt has a great design blog with a video of the creation of the exhibit and an interview with Kate and Laura. Hope you enjoy.
